Alberto Rivera took refuge in 2005 and was asked to teach by Lama Ole Nydahl in 2012. He has been developing the Atitlán Nature Reserve in Guatemala since 1998 and participates in the environmental movement in Guatemala. Alberto is married with two children, all of whom meditate. He was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and lives in Guatemala City. He taught in universities in the USA, Colombia, and Guatemala and did ethnographic research among semi-nomadic pastoralist and peasants in Colombia and elsewhere in Latin America.
